Ending a resignation letter with "I bid thee a fond farewell", sounds weird?

I don't even know where that phrase comes from, or entirely what it means. I'm not trying to say that I'm happy to leave, but rather that I was fond of the job and it's sad that I need to move on. I put that sentence in there because it sounded right... and don't want to replace it if it's appropriate. Thanks.
