Were/are Jehovah's Witnesses disheartened?

Back in the early 1900s, the Watchtower made claims that by 1918 or so that millions of the followers of Christendom would be lying dead in the streets. Were they upset that it never happened? Or do they still look forward to the day where millions of dead bodies of Christians litter the streets? Is this something to be looking forward to with great anticipation and almost a sense of joy, like the article published by the Watchtower makes it out to be, something the Bible tells us to do? Or was this just another false prophecy made by the governing body?
