Cloning hard drive on xp broken laptop?

I have a laptop that has problems with xp. I got iback to a semi funtional state. Now iwant to reinstal xp and reinstall my HD. I used hdclone pro to clone the drive to my external HD. Whatsnext. Do I do a fresh install of xp and than reboot from clone disk and restore? Sounds to easy.
