Can anyone figure out how to solve this brain teaser?..i doubt?

There are 12 identical coins. One of them is a forgery and its weight is different from the others. It is not known however if the forged coin is heavier or lighter then the genuine coins. How can you find the forged coin by three weighings on a simple balance?
